Mrs. Doubtfire - The Musical Chicago Theatre reviews
An Amos Lee Victory
Amos Lee, a true musician with a heart of gold for his talents and his fans, showed us love through his words and his music. The Chicago Cubs may have lost that night in Wrigley Field, but inevitably they took the World Series honor a few days later. The true victory that night was an Uber drive south from the field and into the Chicago Theater with an incredible Mrs. Doubtfire - The Musical performance.
His rhythm and blues-jazz-blues-funk-rock-soul-gospel influence spread throughout the incredible architecture of the theater, a smart blend of music from all of his albums and some great covers as well. Bringing his fellow Philadelphian opening act, Mutlu, in for a quick hello during Sara Smile showed great camaraderie and respect.
I've been a major fan since his first release but have never seen him perform live. Now I finally have my moment and regret not seeing him prior. The light show was subtle and simple. His band was fun and unique in their own way, from his organ-accordion playing hipster to the saxophone-guitar ripping smooth operator that belted out Ginuwine's Pony jingle. Amos Lee showed us love through his words and his music, and I'll forever put this concert in the top tier of amazingness.
